Scott’s Path
Scott has successfully stood with clients facing every type of crime, from misdemeanors to the most serious felonies. He is unwavering in his commitment to providing the best possible defense, tailored to the unique needs of each client.
Scott has gained national recognition for discoveries leading to the largest informant scandal in US history. He also brought to light massive failures in the booking of evidence by Orange County law enforcement and revealed how a widely used inmate phone call system allowed police in multiple counties to secretly and illegally access calls between inmates and their attorneys.
Scott attended the University of Wisconsin, where he studied history. After graduation, Scott entered Emory University School of Law in Atlanta, Georgia. He served as his school’s Student Bar President, was a co-founder of the public interest program, and a member of one of the school’s law journals and its international law moot court team. Soon after law school, Scott joined one of the nation’s outstanding public defender’s offices. During his career with the Orange County Public Defender, he handled cases ranging from misdemeanors to homicides where the prosecution sought the death penalty.
Scott has presented at state and national conferences about his investigations, techniques for uncovering hidden evidence, and methods for responding to governmental misconduct.
He has also studied Spanish intensively in Central America after law school, and one of his continuing passions is reading and speaking the language. Scott has communicated with Spanish-speaking clients and their families throughout his career.
